It took some time because the weather was so fine and I wanted to make my garden pretty again as well.In the meantime I played with them . . . . .

And here are the final mug shots :-)

Little Vacation

I'll be in our German house ( I must come up with a name for the house soon) until March 10th.
I will take my wool with me ( addict!) but I'm not sure I have time for needle felting.
We are planning on painting the bedroom, making curtains and explore the area ( as in hiking).

Oh and  Mama Barn owl's eggs have hatched :-)
See you then sweet readers :-)

Spring is in the air

Yes, you can definitely feel it, smell it, hear it and in my kitchen there is a sign . . . . .
I'm so pleased with the new "reversed "barbs" needles I can't stop making the new needle felted Barn owls .
You can see the difference : both wings are needle felted with the "ordinary" needles and after that I used the Reverse needle on the wing on the left side. See how the colours blend in ?

I particularly love the part around his head and on the chest. All fluffy and soft looking :-)
Here is Mom laying on her nest and Pa and the "real " stuffed :-( owl are watching the progress.
She needs a beak and the little dots on her feathers.
I couldn't needle felt the dots, the fluffy effect would be gone so I used Norwegian sock wool ( it's a mixed colours wool) and I embroidered the wool on the grey parts.
Here they are : Mom and Dad :-)
The only thing I have to do is attach her to the nest .
Doesn't she look happy and comfy ?

Owls from another world. . .

One morning, the little mousies saw something strange in the garden . . . . .
"
They ran inside and jumped on Uncle Ukki's bed. Uncle Ukki was still in bed but he had a busy night.
"Uncle Ukki"said Arthur, " there are some owls in the garden and we've never seen such owls ! "
"Yes Arthur, I know, they arrived last night and I've been busy comforting them all night.
These owls are not from this world you see, I'll tell you the story :
"Once upon a time, long long ago there was this man : Pygmalion.
He was a sculptor and he made a beautiful woman out of marble. She was so beautiful he fell in love with her.
So day after day he went to the temple of Venus, begging her to give him a woman as beautiful as his sculpture.
After a while Venus came to his house and turned the statue into a real  woman.
Pygmalion was of course very happy and he married his Galatea ( that was the name he gave her) .
But Venus didn't know that Pygmalion overheard the spell she used to transform the statue and every time he created a sculpture he used the spell to give it life.
After a while Venus found out and because of the possible danger ( if Pygmalion ever should have a bad mood he could create a monster ) she banned him to another world.
He is still creating and giving life to his sculptures and they are kept in his world by a invisible chain.
But every now and then the creatures find a way to escape and when they arrive in our world the chain is getting visible.
So, did you notice the little chain under their wing?
These are Pygmalion's owls, he called them Athene Pygmalion and they come from that other world."
" WOW Uncle Ukki, this is a great story! I hope we see more of Pygmalion's creatures someday ! "

Little owl

Just a photo, I love this photo !
It's a real wolf skull, it was a present from a little boy who found it somewhere in a German forest.
His Mom was a bit freaked out by it and so the boy gave it to me "because you love animals" ( his words)

By the way : There is a surprise tomorrow !!!

Well, that wasn't easy. I don't know what it is but I don't think the photo's do him justice.

It was a lot of work ♫ working 9 to5 ♫ what a way to make a living ♫ the entire past week but I love it !

The last 2 photo's I had to use the flash so you can see his eyes better.
He is 16 inches from the top of his head to his tail and 14 inches from his feet to the top of his head

Another Owl and Germany

I had to go home, but I didn't want to.
Just look at these pics,
This was the start of a beautiful route through the Ahr Valley.
The narrow Ahr Valley, which was called „the wildest daughter of the Rhine“ by the Romanticists, is known for its red wines and gorgeous landscape.
Oh my, I want to live there!
We walked for hours and hours. . . .
Next time we will bring a picnic basket, a book and a blanket and stay all day.
After this 3 hour hike we visit a little town and indulged ourself with the local wine and food.
( I took little Ginny with me and she had a great time)
We were home May 7th and after the Mother's Day visit I managed to make another baby Great Horned Owl
In my Etsy shop today

I wish I could fly !
